State Science Fair: Congratulations to Japneet Kaur and Manraj Chauhan! Japneet received a Superior Rating at the State Science Fair. Manraj received an Excellent Rating for his science fair project. Japneet has been invited to attend the Celebration of Science Day at The OSU on Saturday, May 11. There will be a presentation of posters, lunch with a scientist, and a tour of the area of interest at the University. Special Science Day awards will also be presented.
Japneet and Manraj also presented their science fair projects at the BEST Medicine Fair at Cleveland State University on Saturday. Manraj received a Bronze Award of $40 for his engineering project. Japneet received a Gold Award of $80 for her environmental science project. Japneet also received the NEXUS Sustainability Award and the Cleveland Clinic Special Award.

Columbia Youth Football Registration/Information:

Spelling Bee Winners: Congratulations to Gemma Crow, Aife Balogh and Aradhya Arun for their success at the district spelling bee! They will be advancing to the county spelling bee in April! Great job representing CMS with pride! 
 
Culinary Art Champions: Congratulations to the 2024 Culinary Arts winners: Japneet Kaur, Paige Myers, Ishita Agarwal, and Dhriti Jayant.

7/8 Track: Practice began on, March 7th! You must have a OHSAA physical form on file before the first day of practice. Students will take their bus over to the high school and change in the locker rooms. Practice will be held from 2:30-4:00 daily at CHS. Attention Columbia Community and Columbia Local Schools families: On May 18, the class of 2024 is honored at the 100th class to graduate from Columbia High School. Columbia High School is hosting a 100th commencement Open House on April 27 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the High School. See the flier for more information pertaining to this event. If you would like to order a 100th commencement t-shirt you may place your order here, kindly sponsored by the Columbia Athletic Boosters. Pre-orders will close on March 8. However, t-shirts will be available along with a variety of RaiderWear at the event on April 27. 7/8 Football Weight Lifting: Football lifting for current 7th and 8th graders will be after school at CHS on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:00. Lifting will start the week of February 20th. Please contact Coach Rice with any questions at [email protected]  
 
School Fees: School fees for the 2023-2024 school year were due October 30, 2023. Past year's fees and outstanding CLSD property are past due. Any student who participates in co-curricular or extracurricular activities that require school transportation must have all school fees paid and missing items returned. Payment options: Pay through the PaySchools system on the school's website, mail payment with check made payable to Columbia Middle School, or send check or exact cash with your student to pay in the office. Report Cards: You may access and print a pdf. of your student’s report cards in PowerSchool. Please note, report cards cannot be viewed on the app. You must login to the PowerSchool website to view and print report cards. Access PowerSchool from the MS website (toggle on left).
 
Incoming 7th grade students: The Ohio Revised Code 3313.67 requires that a student entering 7th grade provide written evidence of being immunized against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, (Tdap) and meningococcal (MCV4) or is in the process of being immunized against these diseases.
You must provide the school with a current immunization record for your child. 
 
Medications: Medication forms must be filled out each school year by your physician. Contact Nurse Mindi with any questions at [email protected] 
 
Chromebooks, Chargers and Insurance:  Students are responsible for keeping chromebooks in good working order. If you have a damaged or chromebook that is not working properly, bring it to the office for repair.  If you have lost or damaged your charger, you are responsible for replacing it. Chargers are available on Amazon. Make sure you check the model name before ordering a replacement. Chromebook Insurance will be available in fall of each school year. New students to the district will have 2 weeks from their first day of school to purchase insurance. 

PowerSchool Parent Portal: Please note, report cards cannot be viewed on the app. You must login to the PowerSchool website to view and print report cards.

Buses arrive at the school by 7:20 am.
Car riders drop-off begins at 7:20 am.

School Meals for the 2023-2024 School year: As of August 2022, the federal government will no longer subsidize meals for ALL students. Meal prices for the 2023-2024 school year are:

  • Student Breakfast $2.00
  • Student Lunch  $3.50
  • Milk $0.55

Athletics

7th and 8th grade Student-Athletes: All 7th and 8th grade student-athletes must complete the athletic forms on OneView prior to the first mandatory practice of the season. A current OHSAA Physical Form must be uploaded in PDF format onto the OneView site and a hard copy must be submitted to your child’s coach no later than the first official day of practice. Students will not be permitted to participate in any practice without the submission of the online forms on the OneView portal on our website. The hard copy of your child’s current physical form must be on file or submitted to your child’s coach no later than the first official day of practice. See the Oneview instructions HERE for first time users to create an account. OHSAA sports physicals are valid for one calendar year. The 2023/2024 OHSAA Preparticipation Physical Form is available in the information rack across from the office or downloaded HERE  
School fees must be paid in full before using school transportation to away sites.  If tryouts are involved with the sports team, pay-to-participate fees are due once the teams are chosen. 

7th and 8th grade Participation Fees: The 2023-2024 athletic participation fee is $150 per athlete per season with a $300 family cap per season for athletes in 7-12 grade. This fee is due no later than the first athletic contest. School transportation for all extra curricular activities will be denied until all past and current school fees are paid.
